Goodbye Maroc

Salam family and friends,
I can’t even believe it but this is my last update for this trip!!!! This time next week we will be back in the USA! It’s amazing how fast this trip has gone by in some ways and slow in others but it’s all been an adventure with the Lord that I shall not soon forget! Our time here in Agadir has been sweet...going to classes and hanging out with our Moroccan friends. It will be so sad to leave them all...but the Lord has done such great things in our friendships that we have made here. He has given us open doors to share and all in all things have been received very well.

We leave from Agadir on Monday night and begin our journey to Spain where we fly out early Friday morning! Once we are back in the states we begin our debriefing and time of reflection which will last until Wednesday (17th) morning. I fly home to the "Great State of Virginia" (look Mom! lol) on the 22nd of December and will hopefully see many of you on the night of the 24th! I am very excited to return home after this full season here in Morocco. The Lord has brought me in to a greater understanding of Himself over these past few months. He has been speaking to me a lot of "Identity". Of what His identity is and what mine is in Him. Its beauty and pain. Some other things are 1) I have come to a new understanding of how truly weak and helpless I am on my own...I can’t make it through a single day without His strength! 2) All you need is love...His love. Without it we nothing...and in it we have everything. To "LOVE MUCH" (Luke 7:47) Yes the Lord has done great and beautiful things in the lives of many. Thank you all so much for you faithfulness in prayer...we as a team truly believe that strongholds have been cast down...in us and in this nation because of the prayers of the saints! The Lord has truly done such a good work and I can’t wait to truly see the eternal impact when we all get to heaven for all that we can’t see at present!

Well see you so soon! May the Lord continually bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you!

Ahava,
Becca

Agadir

Salam,

I just thought I would give you all a short update! We are currently in Agadir which is a coastal city in the south of Morocco, just an hour or so from the Sahara Desert. We arrived here a little under three weeks ago after a long grueling journey from Spain (18+ hours of travel on just about every means of transportation!)

Us girls are staying with two of the teachers from the English school, Ad. (age 70) and Am. (age 22). They are so sweet and we have been really enjoying our time with these ladies! The guys are staying about a mile away from us house sitting for a worker here in Agadir.

Our classes have been going very good...we all sit in and help in different classes at different times during the week. I help out in Amelie's classes on Tuesday and Fridays nights. In our class there are about 12 students ranging in age from 12-30. It’s been fun getting to know them! I will be taking over for Amelie while she is out of town for about a week and Hailey will be taking over the Saturday class...please pray for us!

On Friday nights there is a cultural discussion time led by one of the Moroccan teachers. It is a time were the students can come and discuss with us "foreigners" the cultural differences between Morocco and the Western world. This includes topics of customs, traditions, holidays, politics, manners, stereotypes and most importantly religion and faith! Please be praying for our team and the workers who come out on Friday night to discuss these topics. Pray the Lord would give us clear powerful answers.

Overall things have slowed down in our schedule which leaves a lot of time to meet up with friends that we have met on the boardwalk and in our classes. Both the guys and us girls have made a handful of friendships over the past few weeks. Pray that the Lord gives us many, many opportunities to share His love with these precious people!

Well...I have to admit that I am pretty homesick right now. It's funny because this whole trip I have missed everyone a bunch but now as this season is coming to a close...I have no idea why, but I miss everyone 10 times more! I feel like the Lord has done so much in my heart and in the team...it truly is amazing! Still, I do believe I will be ready to come home in a few weeks. Communication with Paul, my family and friends has been so limited, it will be such a blessing to be able to share and communicate easily again...I am looking forward to that!

Thank you all so much for all your prayers, support, love and encouragement. Our team has been totally blessed by your faithfulness in prayer. I can't wait to come home and share all the stories of how the Lord has answered!

Know that you all are in our prayers as well and that I miss you all very much!!! May the Lord bless you and keep you....and make His face to shine upon you!

Hope you all have a sweet week in Him!

Ain Lueh

Salaam my friends and family,

I am back in civilization! Yeah! We have been on such an adventure with the Lord over the past 5 weeks! For the better part of the month of October we were serving at the Village of Hope in Ain Leuh. The city of Ain Leuh is about 2 hours outside of the city of Fez. (if you want to find it on a map). Tucked away in the beautiful countryside of Morocco is the Village of Hope, it sits in the shadow of a nearing mountain. The weather of Ain Lueh is breathtaking...awe-striking lightning storms, clear bright rainbows, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. I've never seen such beauty displayed in nature...each resounding the glory and power of the Lord. It in this place where VOH stands and it is here that there is about 7 couples...from all over the world who have made 20+ year commitments to raising 8-10 Moroccan orphans. It kind of strange to call them orphans because they are not looked at as orphans at VOH...it’s an amazing thing to see how each of these children are truly part of families...there is no distinction. It so sweet hearing from the parents how each of their children came to them...most where only a couple days old. And though these children have grown up in godly homes their pasts still play such a part in their lives. It’s an interesting thing to see because for one all of the children are from Islamic backgrounds which comes out so much in their behavior though they have been brought up Christian. Some children though just a few days old when arriving at VOH were incredibly abused...and you also see that in the child's demeanor; It really showed me how much of a person’s soul is affected and understands though they might not have any memory of what has happened...yet their soul knows.

Liz and I had the privilege of serving in the local school. Liz with the kindergartner class and me with the grade one. Both the K-5 and grade one teachers are believers but the rest of the teachers and staff are not. The objective of placing us in these classes were for no other reason than intercession for the children, the staff and the whole area of Ain Leuh. Also to at the end of our time to give a neutral report of our observations. (I have learned a lot of Arabic to say the least...6 hours every day for a month straight!) And it was in this classroom were the Lord just totally gave me His heart for the people of this nation...and believe me His heart is broken. Our time at VOH was so sweet...the Lord met each of us in powerful ways and we were able to build relationships with these families and workers that I pray lasts a lifetime. I pray that our time there is used more than we will ever know to bring refreshment and encouragement to these people who are daily sacrificing so much to follow the vision the Lord has given them for the Village, the children and the Nation. If you would like to read more and see pictures of the kids please visit their website at www.voh-ainleuh.org!

We said our sad but full goodbyes on the 18th and began our route to Spain to have a time of rest and reflection. We stayed two nights in Tetouan (which was the first city we stayed at in the beginning of the trip). It was so neat to be back in that city and just reflect on how much the Lord has changed us, softened our hearts for the Nation and each other over the past two months. We then traveled across the border and settled 5 days in the coastal city of Ceuta Spain. After our five day stay there we crossed back over the border into Morocco and are now currently staying in another coastal city called Asilah to finish out our Visa trip and time of Rest. There is a spirit of anticipation and excitement in the team for the following 6 weeks to come. We desire to see the Lord move and work in and through us even more as we begin our final leg of the trip in Agadir.

I honestly could go on writing of all the things the Lord has done, how He has taken care of us and all the funny things that have happened on this trip but I don't want to make this update ridiculously long! lol I wanted to sincerely thank you all for continually keeping me and this team in your prayers. Please continue to pray for us, that the Lord would continue to unify the team through our common love for Him. Pray that I the Lord would continue to break my heart for the things that break His. That I would faithful to intercede and to abide in His presence and find my joy there. Above all pray that God would save a nation...pray that the Lord would break the Moroccan people and lead them into the salvation of Jesus Christ. Plead His blood over these people...that they would have dreams and visions of Him!

I pray this update finds you all well. May the Lord greatly bless you for your faithfulness and steadfastness to Him! May He impart His wisdom, love, strength, hope, peace and joy to each of you! May He bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you! I love you all and the Lord loves you too!!!

Ahava,

Becca

Marrakech

Salam dearest friends and family,

I just wanted to start out this update by thanking you all so much for all your prayers and support. I know that the Lord is so blessed by you faithfulness to Him and by your love for the things of His heart! May He shower down blessings upon each one of you!

With that said the team is here is Marrakech and has been for the last 12 days or so. It’s been a sweet time here in this city...I don't really want to leave! We have been serving at an orphanage, painting and just hanging out with the kids! It was so great to just sit and play with these kids. All of the kids are Moroccan; many of them have been abandoned by their parents rather than being orphaned. One kid really pulled at all of our heart strings...we will call him M. since I have to be careful about details and all. M. is about 6 years, he was born with two arms that end at the elbow and one leg that ends at the knee with a foot attached at the end of it...its kind of hard to describe. But he has one healthy working leg which he puts to good use! I found out why he was born with these birth defects and the reason being because his mother (like many of the women do here) drank some type of poison during her pregnancy in an effort to abort the baby. But somehow M. survived and let me tell you though he has some major birth defects...his face is so beautiful and his mind as sharp as a tack!!! He is so sweet, smart and vibrant! It was amazing to watch him keep up with all the other kids...I mean for reals he keeps up...playing cards and everything just like the others! Our whole team was so moved by him...there was just such sweetness to him! Please be praying for these children though...it is illegal to introduce any other kind of religion to these kids apart from Islam. So please pray for their salvation!

Apart from working at the orphanage this past week we were also helping a couple out who are workers here in Marco. They had just recently moved into a new house, so we helped them fix it up...painting, sanding etc. It was such a blessing to get to hang out with them...they are a young couple. Been married about two years and both of them have been in country for about the 5-6 years. Such a rad couple, love the Lord and it was just so much fun hanging out with them!

We will be leaving the city of Marrakech on Friday heading to Ain Lou to work and live at the Village of Hope (Orphanage). I am excited to be going to VOH but I also feel sad to be leaving since our time here has been so great. We have made a lot of friends here on the street. One of my favorites is this little old beggar lady who sits outside of our hostel. Her name is Hadisha and she is the sweetest thing ever! Every morning when we come out to go to breakfast, there she is sitting with a smile on her face! We always go up to her and give her a kiss or two or three...the typical Moroccan greeting. After observing her I thought to myself that "if I ever was a old homeless lady I would want to be like Hadisha". So happy and sweet...and she has never once asked us for money! Pray for her as well...that she would see Jesus!

The Lord has been personally showing me so much! So much about my own heart and about His. It truly been a season of refinement, rooting up all these shaded areas of my heart that I am in the process of learning to surrender. Areas that the Lord desires to burn out of me whether it be fear, insecurities or even simply bad attitudes. These past few weeks have definitely been humbling...thats for sure! The Lord has been teaching me so much about His faithfulness and mercy. Also the importance He places on having the heart of an intercessor and being faithful in the little things He sets before me! It’s been a sweet time with the Lord...in the breaking and refinement process. I'm glad for it though because I desire to be the person He desires me to be. Being more conformed into the image of Jesus I am convinced is never a "feel good" experience but it is a necessary one for the believer to go through if we want our lives to radiate Him. If our de sire is for others to have an encounter with Jesus we ourselves must be willing to have one as well! Just something the Lord has been teaching me!

Well my friends...thats all for now! During our time at VOH we have limited to no Internet access so you all might not here from me for about a month or so! But know that I am alive and things are probably going good...just no Internet! I will send another update as soon I as can. Once again thank you all so much for all you love, prayers and support! You all bless my heart so much and know that you bless His even more!

Many blessings to you,

Becca

Casa

Salaam,

So we are now in Casablanca (Casa for short) it took us about 6 hours in a train car with 100 other people and three little windows! It was one of the hottest experiences of my life!!! hahaha but we arrived safe and sound...so glad to finally be in Casa! D. and K. are workers here in Casa at an English school; K. is the daughter of our friends B. and K. who live in Tetouan. D. came and picked us up from the train station in their family suv. It was amazing to see how 7 people plus 7 people-sized backpacks fit into this semi small car...the Lord definitely expanded the space for sure! D. and K. and their three little boys live in a beautiful lil home right on the beach! They have been so kind to us. They have fed us good, washed our clothes and I think that last night was the best sleep I've had in about 2 weeks.

I am looking forward to what the Lord has for us in this city. The past few weeks in Tetouan have been so sweet and I am sad to leave! We made friends with the maids in our hostel and dined with them 3 times!!! One of their sons, Achmed took the guys to the beach and then came back picked us girls up and took all of us to the humum. (Bathhouse) We also made some new friends....a former diplomat and VIP journalist! They just happened to be in our hostel at the same time that we were walking out to go get lunch. They were changing their clothes because it was the King of Morocco's birthday and they...along with all the other high-ups in Maroc were having lunch with him. Anyways they asked us where we were from, we told them and so started off our conversation. By the end of our conversation they had both given us their cards with their cell numbers and told us to call them if we ever in their home towns. But what was so sweet about this whole scene was that here...us six dirty looking American kids are standing in this narly hostel handing hands with our maids friends talking with these two respected men who are on their way to see the King!!! It was pretty crazy! So please pray for these men and for our maid friends and families as well as Achmed, that they would see the salvation that Jesus offers!

Well that’s it for now...tomorrow we go into downtown Casa to search for a hostel to spend the rest of our time here in! Thank you all so much for your prayers....the Spirit of the Lord is definitely at work here! I am so blessed by your faithfulness and I know that the Lord is too!!!

Tetouan

Just wanted to send you all an update.

We are currently in the city of Tetouan and we will be here until we leave for Casablanca on the 23rd. We took a ferry and a taxi to get to the border of Spain and Maroc. We walked across the border and made it through customs with no problems! Praise the Lord! A friend of ours who lives in Maroc came and picked us (it was like 11pm bless his heart) and we stayed at their house for the night so that we didn't have to find a hostel right away. It definitely a relief to have a place to stay!

The following day we went into Tetouan and began on our search to find a hostel which turned out to be a challenge since it’s the last few weeks of vacation for many of people here in Maroc and there just were no rooms anywhere to be found. But the Lord is so faithful and just before we called it quits this little hostel not only had rooms but it was cheaper than any of the other places and had three single beds to a room...which was perfect since there are six of us!!! The Lord is so good!!!

The people of Maroc are so full of life, friendly and extremely hospitable! The streets are loud and busy with all kinds of smells and neat little shops! We have made friends with the maids in the old hostel were are staying in, they had invited us up to their sitting room up on the roof for tea and bread. They are so sweet and fun! They served us the traditional Moroccan mint tea and cornmeal bread. It was so good but kinda hard to drink since its like 100 degrees right now and we are totally covered head to toe! The womens names are Habeeba, Azeeia, Fatima and Fatilia. It was so interesting to sit down and talk with 7them (and because they do not speak or understand English we used our hands and all the Spanish and Arabic we could remember to communicate; it was amazing because we actually could hold a conversation!!!). We played guitar and sang worship songs for them...we also showed them pictures of our families s and friends. They loved it! We have been invited back for a second sitting...we are so excited!!!

The Lord has been really showing me that during this trip so much of the sharing is going to come through our actions and countenance...not so much by our words. They will be touched by Jesus' love through what they see in us and how we treat them! Prayer and worship are going to be the weapons we wage in this nation because though Maroc is so full of life, spiritually it’s dead and there is a great darkness here in this land. It is by prayer and worship that Jesus' light will shine and His presence will be felt by the people. Where light is darkness must flee! So please join with us in prayer over this nation!

A quick update on my traveling buddies. (haha) Everyone is doing well...we are all tired but filled with excitement to see all the doors the Lord continues to open! Please pray for Jacob though, he is very sick with some kind of stomach bug, our friend Bill gave him some antibiotics so hopefully that will kill off anything he has. Trust me being sick in this hostel could never be a comfortable experience! In one word...sqatties!

Thank you all so much for your prayers...continue on for the Lord desires to move much in this nation!!!

Ahava,

Becca

"But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. For it is You who blesses the righteous man, O LORD, You surround him with favor as with a shield." Psalm 5: 11-12

Spain

Hola everyone!
I am currently in Malaga Spain at the YWAM base (for North Africa). It’s a
really sweet villa overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It’s extremely hot here and
there is no air conditioning so we are sweating it out and enjoying our siesta
times (in Spain and Morocco the time from 12-4 is “Rest time” because it’s too
hot to work or really do anything!).

The last few weeks have been sweet but challenging. My time in the wilderness
trekking through the San Bernardino Mountains was a real adventure! We went 7
days without a shower or a toilet!!! My solo time was so sweet, 24 hours with
the Lord and the beautiful view of the mountains in all directions and the stars
at night were breathtaking. Creation manifests His glory from the rocks
formations to the stars! The Lord spoke much to me in that time and it was a
nice to rest after the four days of hiking up the mountain. My team did great,
it was a great time to get to know each other better and learn how to bear one
another's burdens on such a rough road! The Lord is so faithful and gave each one of us the strength to carry
on and encourage each other though it sometimes seemed impossible!
From the mountains we left straight to Pine Summit Retreat Center (in the Big
Bear Mountains) where we were welcomed by clean beds, showers, toilets and real
food! I don´t think I have ever been so excited to see a bathroom in my life!
That Sunday began our lecture phase and the second part of our training. We had
a week of worship and devos, teaching and times of waiting on the Lord as a
family! The teaching covered everything from cultural adaptation to spiritual
warfare to hearing the voice of the Lord! A man from India named Jesus came and
taught a three day series on “Hearing the Voice of God”. He is the brother of
Joy (who is Indian and is married to Mark, the co-founder of SEND). Jesus was so
encouraging and really equipped us in this area…learning how to discern the Lord´
s voice, for our lives and for others as well! Jesus encouraged me greatly with
some things that the Lord had placed on his heart to share with me about this next
season of my life and Paul´s as well! SO Sweet!

From Pine Summit the Israel and Morocco teams departed to Murrieta to stay the
last day in the states at Rich´s house…a guy from the Israel team. That last
night we all hung out, ran some errands and had our final Mexican dinner
followed by frozen yogurt before our early departure for the airport at 3am!
This is one of the nights I will for sure remember for the rest of my life!
After we returned back from our last dinner at Alberto´s I was laying outside on
the driveway in front of Rich´s house on the phone with Paul…thinking that this
would be our last conversation in the states! And the next thing I knew Paul was
sitting right beside me!!! I seriously thought that I was seeing things! (I
actually smacked him just to make sure he was real!) We talked for a few minutes
and then he asked me to close my eyes…when I opened them there was this
beautiful ring in this little black box! I was so shocked…I don’t even know what I said! We had agreed earlier in the summer
that he wasn’t going
to get me ring and I was totally fine with it and everything. First I was so
shocked to see Paul…and then a ring too! It was a sweet last to share together
and Paul saw me off. I feel so overwhelmingly blessed by this wonderful man the
Lord has placed in my life I can hardly believe it!!!
So here I sit…with new engagement ring on my hand…sweating from the heat of a
Spanish summer, just now about recovered from our 33hour trip to get to the
base! I am so looking forward to what lies ahead in the land of Morocco and to
what the Lord has in store over these next few months!
Thank you all for you love, prayers and support! I am truly blessed to have such
a family in Christ supporting me in following Him!!!

Much love,
Becca
